Pumpkin Potjie at The Lamb

On 04 April, Nieu Bethesdians will again be celebrating anything and everything associated with pumpkins!

Incorporating all things pumpkin, a child-friendly, family fun day, starts with a street market under the trees. Then a “Pump-Crawl”, wherein residents and visitors can do a walking tour of various shops and galleries around town.

At each of the participating locations, complimentary 'surprise' pumpkin dishes or drinks will be available to enhance your browse through the high quality products on offer.

There will also be a pumpkin exhibition, with more than 20 different types of pumpkin from all over the world and, intriguingly, a Pumpkin Art exhibition. (Locals and visitors are welcome to enter their own pumpkin masterpieces - see contact details below.)

Bring your own pumpkin and a sharp knife for the pumpkin art session in the afternoon when everybody will have the opportunity to carve or paint a pumpkin (paints will be provided). Try participating in some organised street games as well.

In the late afternoon, pumpkins entered in the competition will be judged and prizes will be awarded for the biggest, smallest, most beautiful, weirdest, sexiest and funniest pumpkins.  OVK is sponsoring the first prize of R1 000 for the heaviest pumpkin and other prizes have been donated by local businesses.

Proceeds from a pumpkin auction will go to senior citizen organisations in our area.

During Pump-Palooza day, restaurants in town will be offering special pumpkin dishes. Try a white chocolate pumpkin cheesecake and challenge your taste buds with pumpkin beer, or be really adventurous and go for one of the other deliciously creative pumpkin concoctions.

At about 18:00, the BIG PUMP-PALOOZA starts at The Pub, with the Silver Creek Mountain Band and a stof-opskop in the street.

The price of admission to all festivities is a pumpkin - any size, sort, type or colour, (these will also be donated to senior citizen homes.)

Bring your camera and join us in some unusual fun, while at the same time making a significant contribution to many senior citizens who need your support.
